Rods

AFTMA 1 (for the really small ones) up to AFTMA 4 or 5 if you're targeting bigger roach, or if you risk catching other big fish.

Lines

Floating for surface, sinking for deeper down. If the water is very deep, a DI7 or DI9 might be needed.

Lightweight fly fishing for roach can be a lot of fun. In warm weather they'll come up to grab insects from the surface, the take could be mistaken for a brownie...

You can fish for roach all year round, but the warm and cold weather fishing will differ. In warm weather they will come up to take insects from the surface, whereas in cold weather they'll be down deep sitting near the bottom. You can then still target them by using a nymph and a sinking line. They're almost always in a shoal, so if you catch one it's very likely that more will follow.
