Lac de la Gruyère, also known as Lake Gruyère, is a significant part of the Swiss fly fishing scene with a rich history. It was formed as a result of the Rossens Dam built in 1948. Ever since, it has offered a unique experience to fly fishers seeking to explore new waters. This reservoir is about 13.5 km long, providing an extensive, diversified habitat for various fish species.
The most commonly targeted fish on the fly are pike and perch. The lake also hosts other species like roach, burbot, and brown trout. The latter is actually not fished that much on the fly, given there's only very few in the lake plus they're often holding up deep, so much more difficult to target.
To fly fish for pike and perch, try to find objects in the water and changes in depth. Both pike and perch can strike very aggressively so fun is guaranteed! If there's a perch taking your pike streamer, switch to a lighter rod. They often hunt in shoals so if you have one following your streamer, it's likely that there are more.
Being a public body of water, Lac de la Gruyère is subject to Swiss fishing laws. Therefore, before you venture out for a fishing trip, ensure to check with the local fishing regulations and obtain the necessary licenses.
There might be more species you can catch in this location or in the area, but the current page and description focusses on these fish species.
