Euronymphing, also known as Czech nymphing or French nymphing, is a specialized form of fly fishing. It's become increasingly popular in recent years, and as a result, there are now many different euro nymphing rods on the market.
So, which rods are the best? This of course depends on personal preference, so there is never objectively one rod 'the best'. However, there are a few models that are most used and most often recommended, so we wanted to list those to give you an overview of the most popular four.
Note: if you're curious about Euronymphing, read our article Euronymphing: what is is, how it works and the gear you need.
This rod is designed specifically for euro nymphing and features a medium action, high modulus graphite blank and a unique taper. It also has a thin diameter and a lightweight design, making it easy to handle and manoeuvre all day long. Lastly, the matte black doesn't only give it a really nice appearance, it also adds to its stealthiness.
It's available in 10' and 10'4 as a 3wt, and in 10' as a 4wt. View the 3wt 10' rod here.
This rod is made with a super lightweight carbon fiber blank and features a medium-fast action design that allows for delicate presentations. It also has a comfortable cork handle and a sleek, modern look. Many people don't realize that Redington comes from the same stable as Sage (the overarching brand is called Farbank). Redington rods are a lot more affordable than Sage rods, while they still have very decent quality.
Available in 10', 10'6 and 11' as a 3wt, and in 10' and 11' as a 4wt. View the 3wt 10' rod here.
Another top choice for euro nymphing. The Clearwater series is often considered a beginner's rod and an all-round rod. But get it in the 3wt 10' model and you're perfectly set for euronymphing for a very good price as well. And it includes Orvis' 25 year rod guarantee.
Nymphmaniac rods have been designed together with some of the best competition anglers in Europe including Jarkko Suominen, Cato Monsen, Jan Kubala and David Ferreras. They are incredibly light and very easy to handle. And the design, with the bright green accents on a matte black blank, looks beautiful as well.
