Tapered Leader

Tapered Leader

A tapered leader is a section of monofilament or fluorocarbon line that is attached between the fly line and the tippet. It features a gradual decrease in diameter from the thicker butt section, which is connected to the fly line, to the thinner tip section, where the tippet and fly are attached. Tapered leaders help transfer energy from the fly line to the tippet during casting, allowing for a smoother, more accurate presentation of the fly. They are available in various lengths and breaking strengths to suit different fly fishing situations
